The ERDF Metropolitan Programme

Agreement between the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area for carrying out actions of priorities 2, 4 and 6 within the ERDF 2014-2020 Regional Operational Programme of Investment in Growth and Jobs in Catalonia.

In August 2017, the AMB formalised the agreement with the Generalitat of Catalonia to manage directly, for the first time, the contribution of €30 million from the European ERDF fund. The projects to be carried out until 2023 must fall within priorities 2, 4 and 6 of the ERDF 2014-20 Operational Programme of Catalonia.

Within priority 2, on enhancing the use and quality of ICT, the Smart Cities Metropolitan Platform is being developed to incorporate more metropolitan services and new functionalities in the applications of the AMB.

Within priority 4, on supporting a low-carbon economy, sustainable mobility is being fostered with the application of the low-emission zone in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, the expansion of the network of charging points for electric vehicles, the financing of new stretches of cycle lanes and the expansion of the offer of safe bicycle parking.

Energy saving and efficiency is also being promoted by changing conventional lighting to LED technology in the ring roads and installing new photovoltaic systems in municipal buildings.

Within priority 6, on protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency, ecological recovery activities are being carried out around the Besòs and Llobregat Rivers and in the Collserola area of influence. In addition, buildings, cultural environments and metropolitan parks of heritage interest are being rehabilitated.
