Housing promotion (IMPSOL)

The Metropolitan Institute of Land Development and Property Management (IMSPOL) is a public business organization that depends on the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB). It has built 5.000 houses in 98 separate promotion projects in 27 municipalities and currently manages more than 1.200 new houses in 20 promotion projects in 11 municipalities.

IMPSOL facilitates the access to affordable, inclusive and gender-responsive housing which break with spatial hierarchies and with the traditional roles of power distribution. It incorporate the diversity of required uses in the different life stages of occupants, taking care and watch tasks into consideration for safe and inclusive communitarian spaces, avoiding corners with low visibility, following a perception of safety that is related to open spaces.

It innovates technically and typologically. Housings are flexible to changing needs, be them social or technological, and adaptable to host diverse social uses and functions without physically modifying the space. It constructs quality and flexible architecture, where energy efficiency is a basic principle. The reduction of energetic demand and ecological footprint and the incorporation of healthy and durable materials to minimize the dependence on future maintenance are some of the requirements applied to the new promotions under development.
